A simple answer to the question -”why social networking” is because we can’t survive alone.From professional to personal life ,we all are so much dependent on each other that social networking has taken a inevitable place in our routine
But what we get through facebook ,orkut, myspace etc is not the real networking.In real life we not only want to know more about our friends but also want to learn and add value to our knowledge by interacting,sharing etc.To minify the gap between the real and online networking simple factors should be introduced to the existing online social networking sites.
We all love to have positive changes in our surroundings.But what delays us from adapting to these changes is the initial labour required to switch from the usual routine system to the upgraded one.For Eg. A person may get transferred to a new better place but the time and energy needed to go there and settle himself is what he hate.We can also see why the advent of “number portability” has made it so easier for people to switch to their preferred network.
Now if we take case of social networking,if one want to switch from A to B social networking site ,one need to start it all over again,from uploading the pics to profile building.A person may not want to loose the precious comments he got on his old snaps from his friends but there is no way out if he want to switch to the better one.
Imagine if we can import not only our contacts but also the snaps with the comments ,the groups and communities,our profile information,the memorable testimonials etc to our new account.
The second feature which is really need to be added on to the social networking site is the integration of business and personal life at one platform.Its the same as why we need to have dual sim.One sim we need for our professional contacts and other for the personal ones.
What if we can integrate the linked in and facebook together.It would be lot more managable and will make our lives easier.
But this is not it.The integration does not mean that we treat each person in our professional list or personal list as equal.The intensity of relationship varies and that has to be reflected in the virtual online social network as well.The simple solution is introducing Artificial Intelligence.The site should itself analyse who fall in the category of close friends/acquaintances or unknown.
Moreover In real life networking we don't only share tacit knowledge with each other.Its also the explicit one.We exchange books ,documents etc through mails.Though some social networking site allow us to attach files and folders to our messages but when it comes to large data sharing we need torrent for that.
As we do in real life ,sometimes we share our books for free and sometimes we charge.That's what need to be added to the social networking sites.The premium and regular members can exchange the books,projects,documents etc.Imagine how much help you will get if you come across projects of 1000s of people like you of your field.There will be exchange of knowledge,experience and views.
Furthermore when it comes to managing the professional circle it has been observed that generally one to one interaction/sharing is less.Generally the conversation has to be in a team so the introduction of conferencing the chats (including video chats) is very necessary.
In fact one should have an option to join different communities according to their interests and share their views /advices etc.Share notes, play lists,projects or anything.Get free advices form the experienced people of that community or develop a product,work on live projects online etc.
The existing social networking system is very stimulating at times.You forget everything when you access those stupid but interesting applications on facebook.But sometimes our privacy gets affected when the applications don't have option to fetch the results and not publish it on the wall at the same time.Sometimes the name of the application don't tell us well about it and we end up getting stucked in some embarrassing situations.To get out of this, proper categorization of applications is needed.One can search the applications according to his/her interests and then have an enticing experience.
